Barry founded our Firm in May of 1994. He graduated from the University of Western Ontario Law School in 1971 and was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1973. Prior to May of 1994, he practiced as a student, junior lawyer and partner with the firm now known as Siskinds the Law Firm.
Barry will be retiring from the active practice of law as of December of this year, but will continue to provide consultation and support to the Firm. Until then Barry will continue to work less than a full five days each work week, but is still directly responsible for selected legal work and acts as a continuing resource for the firm’s clients and other partners. When not in the office, he may be reached through e-mail or through his assistant Inese Kramins. His past clients are also encouraged to contact any other partner within their respective areas of practice (please see their individual CVs). The prime partner contacts on real estate, condominium and development matters are Jeff Bell and Kristi Sargeant-Kerr.
Barry’s practice has always been heavily involved with real estate and real estate development work and has had a particular focus on condominium law. He has acted extensively for condominium developers and condominium corporations. He lectured on real estate and condominium matters in the Ontario Bar Admission Course at London from 1985 until 2005. He is a professional member of the Canadian Condominium Institute (“CCI”) and has served on both the London Chapter Board and the National Board of CCI. He has also been recognized as a Fellow of the Institute.
Barry has been extensively involved in the education activities of CCI, both locally and nationally. He has spoken and written on condominium matters for the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Ontario Bar Association, the Middlesex Law Association, CCI and the Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario.
Away from the office, Barry’s favourite pastimes are golfing, canoeing, hiking and biking, all of which are now being supplanted by spending time with grandchildren. Barry and his wife Margie have three daughters and five grandsons.
