About Barry

Barry graduated from the University of Western Ontario Law School in 1971 and was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1973. He practiced as a student, junior lawyer and partner with the firm now known as Siskinds the Law Firm until 1994 when he left to open his own Firm, which has since grown into Scott Petrie LLP.

At the end of 2020 Barry retired from the active practice of law, but he continues to provide consultation and support to the Firm. He will receive messages left on voice mail at his office phone number and will receive e-mails sent to his office e-mail address. Barry’s past clients are encouraged to contact any other partner within their respective areas of practice (please see their individual CVs). The prime partner contacts on real estate, condominium and development matters are Jeff Bell and Kristi Sargeant-Kerr.

Barry’s practice has always been heavily involved with real estate and real estate development work and has had a particular focus on condominium law. He has acted extensively for condominium developers and condominium corporations. He lectured on real estate and condominium matters in the Ontario Bar Admission Course at London from 1985 until 2005. He is a professional member of the Canadian Condominium Institute (“CCI”) and has served on both the London Chapter Board and the National Board of CCI. He has also been recognized as a Fellow of the Institute.

Barry was extensively involved in the education activities of CCI, both locally and nationally. He has spoken and written on condominium matters for the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Ontario Bar Association, the Middlesex Law Association, CCI and the Association of Condominium Managers of Ontario.

Barry’s community involvement over the years included serving as a Director and Officer of the London Chamber of Commerce, as a City of London representative to the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority and as a Director of the London Home Builders Association. He has also been pleased to donate time and expertise in real estate, construction and housing matters to local community and charitable organizations.

Away from the office, Barry’s favourite pastimes are golfing, canoeing, hiking and biking, all of which are now being supplanted by spending time with grandchildren. Barry and his wife Margie have three daughters and five grandsons.
